On Monday, thousands of immigrants and their allies from throughout Michigan will gather at 1:00 p.m. at Garfield Park, at Burton and Madison SE in Grand Rapids.
A march will proceed from Garfield Park, north on Madison to Washington, left on Washington to Prospect, right on Prospect to Lyon, left on Lyon to Ottawa, right on Ottawa to Calder Plaza., leading to a rally at the Plaza at 4 p.m.
The Michigan Organizing Project is behind the event. The Michigan Organizing Project is a coalition of churches and community groups brought together with a common commitment to justice and toward improving our local communities for all residents.
Organizers say the Grand Rapids event is to call attention to the debate that will be beginning taking place that same day in the Senate Judiciary Committee, and also the next day on the floor of the U.S. Senate in Washington, DC, regarding reform of federal immigration laws.
